FAQ
Questions and answers
A short, clear guide to how the platform works: lessons with tutors, courses, UNT tests, online schools, payments and refunds.
General questions
Registration, account, languages, notifications, support.
What is Online Ustaz?
It is an educational platform of Kazakhstan that brings tutors, online courses, UNT preparation tests and online schools together in one place.
A student finds a tutor or a course, pays on the site and studies. Tutors and course authors receive money on their platform balance and withdraw it to a card.
How do I sign up?
Click "Log in" in the site header. The fastest way is to sign in with Google, or fill in a short form: first and last name, email, phone, gender and date of birth.
One account works for everything: you can study, teach, sell courses and run a school with it. You do not need separate accounts for different roles.
Which languages does the site support?
Kazakh, Russian and English. The language is switched in the site header, and your choice is remembered for your account.
The language a particular lesson or course is taught in is set by the tutor or author. You can filter by it in the catalogue.
I cannot log in to my account. What should I do?
On the login page click "Forgot password?" and enter your email or username. Instructions will arrive by email.
If you registered with Google, sign in with the same "Sign in with Google" button — no password is needed. If the email does not arrive, check your Spam folder and write to support.
How do I change my profile details and my page address?
Open your personal dashboard and go to profile settings. There you can change your name, photo, city, phone and description.
Every user has a short page address like onlineustaz.kz/your_username. A username may contain letters, digits and underscores, without dots or the @ symbol.
How do I get notifications in Telegram?
In your profile settings click "Link Telegram". The platform bot will open — press "Start" there.
After that Telegram will bring lesson confirmations, reminders, lesson links, moderation results and support messages. Everything also stays in your on-site notifications.
I am a parent. Do I need a separate account?
There is no separate "parent" account yet. The account is created in the name of the student, and the parent phone number is provided at registration for contact.
A parent can pay for lessons and courses with their own card inside the child account. You will see the lesson history, grades and notifications in the same account.
From what age can a child study?
A student can be registered from the age of 4. For small children the account is managed by a parent.
Tutors state in their profile who they work with: school students, university students or adults. Use that description when choosing.
What is the difference between a tutor, a course author, a curator and a school?
- A tutor gives live one-on-one or mini-group lessons on a schedule.
- A course author records lessons in advance and sells a ready-made course or test. The student goes through it at their own pace.
- A school combines several courses into streams with dates, groups and a gradebook. A school has staff.
- A curator works in a school: leads their group, checks homework and tracks progress.
One person can be a tutor, an author and a school owner at the same time.
How do I contact support?
The fastest way is the "Support" chat in your dashboard. All conversations about withdrawals and refunds happen there too.
You can also write to support@onlineustaz.kz or call +7 771 666 81 88. We usually reply within 24 hours on business days.
Where can I read the platform rules and documents?
All documents are available in the site footer: the public offer, the privacy policy and the payment and refund terms. Every document exists in three languages.
The platform is operated by Online Ustaz LLP.
For students
How to find a tutor, book, reschedule or cancel a lesson, buy a course or a test.
How do I find the right tutor?
Open the tutor catalogue. Filter by subject, price, teaching language, experience and format: online or in person in your city.
In a tutor profile, watch the video introduction and check education, student reviews and the schedule. Every tutor in the catalogue has been verified by the administration.
How do I book a lesson?
In the tutor profile click "Book" and go through five steps: subject, format, package or single lesson, date and time, payment.
While you pay, the chosen time is held for you for 15 minutes. For a package, all chosen slots are held for 30 minutes. If you do not finish in time, the slots become free again.
When is the lesson payment taken?
Immediately at booking. A lesson counts as booked only after payment. An unpaid booking is released automatically after 30 minutes.
The tutor receives the money only after the lesson takes place. Until then the amount is held by the platform, so it is easy to refund in case of a cancellation or a dispute.
Is there a trial lesson?
That is up to the tutor. If a trial lesson exists, it is shown in the profile as a separate option with its own price and duration, usually shorter and cheaper than a regular one.
What is a lesson package and how does it work?
A package is several lessons at a discount, for example 8 lessons minus 15%. The discount and the number of lessons are set by the tutor.
When buying a package you pick the date and time for every lesson right away. The "Repeat weekly" button places the lessons at the same time each week. Package lessons do not expire: they are already on the schedule, and any of them can be rescheduled or cancelled under the general rules.
Where does an online lesson take place?
Once the tutor confirms the lesson, you receive the meeting link: in an on-site notification and in Telegram if it is linked. The tutor chooses the service: Zoom, Google Meet or another one.
The link is also saved in the lesson card in your dashboard. Join a couple of minutes early and check your camera and microphone.
How does an in-person lesson work?
When booking you choose where to meet: at the tutor, at your home or in a neutral place such as a library or a coworking space. After confirmation you receive the tutor address and phone number.
If the tutor travels to you, a travel surcharge is added to the price. It is calculated per kilometre, is the same for all tutors and is shown before payment.
The tutor is not confirming my lesson. What happens?
Under the platform rules the tutor must confirm a lesson within 24 hours of booking, and within one hour for an urgent booking made less than a day before the lesson. If they do not, the booking is cancelled and the money is refunded in full.
2 hours before an unconfirmed lesson, you and the tutor both receive a reminder. If the lesson still is not confirmed, write to support to speed up the refund.
How do I cancel a lesson?
Open the lesson in your dashboard and click "Cancel". Cancellation is free while there are more than 24 hours before the lesson starts. The money comes back under the refund rules.
If less than 24 hours remain, cancellation is unavailable: the tutor has been holding this time for you. As a last resort, message the tutor and agree on a reschedule, or take the lesson.
Can I reschedule a lesson?
Yes, every lesson can be rescheduled up to 2 times. Conditions: more than 24 hours remain before the old time, and the new time is also at least 24 hours away.
Rescheduling is done in the lesson card; the money does not move anywhere. If you have used both reschedules, you can cancel the lesson and book again.
The tutor cancelled my lesson. What should I do?
Nothing. The tutor must state a reason, and the lesson payment is refunded to you. The case automatically reaches the administration, which keeps an eye on such cancellations.
If a tutor cancels often, the administration issues a warning. You can pick another time or another tutor.
What happens after the lesson?
When the lesson time ends, you and the tutor both receive the question "Did the lesson take place?". You can answer once. If the lesson happened, press "Yes" and leave a review.
If both answered "Yes", or you answered "Yes", the money goes to the tutor. If nobody answers within 48 hours, the lesson is considered held. So if the lesson did not happen, it is important to press "No".
The tutor did not show up. How do I get my money back?
After the lesson time ends, answer "No" to the question "Did the lesson take place?". Then there are two possibilities:
- the tutor also answered "No" or stays silent for 24 hours — the money is refunded automatically;
- the tutor answered "Yes" — a dispute opens, and an administrator reviews it.
Screenshots of your conversation and connection attempts help in a dispute. The administrator can refund the full amount, part of it, or leave the payment with the tutor.
How do I give up the remaining lessons of a package?
Open the package in your dashboard and click "Terminate". The cost of all future lessons that are more than 24 hours away returns to your platform balance.
You can also cancel a single lesson from a package under the same 24-hour rules. You cannot pay for a single lesson of a package separately: a package is always paid as a whole.
How do I leave a review about a tutor?
You can leave a review after every paid lesson, when answering the question "Did the lesson take place?". Give a rating from 1 to 5 and write a comment.
Only real students leave reviews, so they can be trusted. The tutor also rates the student; those ratings are visible to the administration.
How do I buy a course and how long is it available?
Open the course catalogue, choose a course and click "Buy". After payment you are taken straight into the course. Free courses open with the "Enrol" button.
Access to a purchased course is lifetime. It stays in the "My courses" section of your dashboard.
Can I get a refund for a course?
Yes, if both conditions are met: no more than 14 days have passed since the purchase and less than 20% of the course is completed.
Open the course in your dashboard and click "Cancel / refund". The request goes to support; an administrator checks the conditions and confirms the refund.
How do UNT tests work on the platform?
The tests are written by platform authors in the UNT format. New users get a free trial attempt. The standard exam time is 240 minutes, and a test can be paused.
Paid tests are sold as a single attempt or a bundle of attempts. A refund is only possible for a test you have not started. For a bundle — only if no attempt has been started.
Are there discounts and promo codes?
Current discounts on courses, tests and tutor lessons are collected on the "Promotions" page. A discount is set by the author or tutor and lasts for a limited time.
Promo codes currently work when buying UNT tests: the "Have a promo code?" field on the test payment page.
Payments and refunds
Payment methods, security, the platform balance, where refunds go.
Which payment methods are available?
Visa and Mastercard cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Payments are processed by the certified payment service TipTop Pay.
If you have money on your platform balance, for example after a refund, you can pay from the balance.
Is it safe to pay by card on the site?
Yes. Card details are entered on the secure page of the payment service and never reach the platform site. The platform only sees the payment result and the last digits of the card.
Lesson money does not go to the tutor immediately: the platform holds it until the lesson takes place. That protects you in case of a cancellation or a dispute.
Where does the money go when I cancel?
- If less than 7 days have passed since payment — back to the card you paid with, in full.
- If more than 7 days have passed — to your platform balance. The 3.3% fee of the payment service is deducted from the amount.
Balance money can be spent on any lessons, courses and tests on the platform, or withdrawn to a card.
What is the platform balance?
It is your internal wallet on the site. Refunds for cancelled lessons go there, and for tutors and authors — their earnings.
The balance is shown in the "Finance" section of your dashboard. Paying from the balance is instant and has no bank fee.
How do I request a refund?
It depends on what the refund is for:
- A lesson with a tutor — cancel the lesson in your dashboard more than 24 hours in advance. If the lesson did not take place, answer "No" to the post-lesson question: the refund or the dispute starts automatically.
- A course or a test — click "Cancel / refund" in the purchase card. The request goes to an administrator, and the reply arrives in the support chat.
Are there limits on purchases and cancellations?
To protect against mistakes and fraud there are daily limits: no more than 20 purchases and no more than 10 lesson cancellations per day per account. A regular student never gets close to them.
The site says online payments are temporarily paused
This happens during maintenance at the payment service. Lessons and courses that are already paid are not affected. Try paying later, or write to support if the lesson is urgent.
For tutors
How to start, moderation, prices and packages, confirming lessons, commission and withdrawals.
How do I become a tutor on the platform?
Register, open the author dashboard and click "Create tutor profile". The setup wizard walks you through three steps:
- your first service: subject, format, duration, price, and optionally a trial lesson and a package;
- your schedule: the days and hours you are ready to teach;
- in-person lesson settings, if you work offline.
After that the profile goes for review. As soon as it is approved, students see you in the catalogue.
What should a tutor card contain?
A good photo, a clear description, education and experience: university, major, graduation year, certificates. A short video greeting helps a lot: add a YouTube link or upload a video.
Students choose tutors with a video and a complete profile more often. Write about your students results, not only your credentials.
How does moderation work and how long does it take?
The administration usually reviews a card within 24 hours. The result arrives as an on-site notification, by email and in Telegram.
If the card is rejected, you see the reason and a "Fix and resubmit" button. After edits to an already approved card, it goes for review again.
How do I set prices and packages?
Every service has its own price per lesson, separately for online and in-person formats. A service price cannot be lower than your base price in the profile.
A package is 2 or more lessons with a discount from 0 to 90%. Without packages, students can only buy single lessons. Packages raise the average order and keep students coming back.
How does the schedule work?
You mark the days of the week and the hours you are ready to teach. The "Apply to all days" button copies the slots across the whole week.
Students only see free time. A booked slot closes automatically for everyone else. Keep the schedule up to date: empty promises lead to cancellations and warnings.
How do I confirm a lesson and send the link?
When a student pays for a lesson, you receive a notification. Open the lesson in your dashboard, click "Confirm" and paste the meeting link: Zoom, Google Meet or any other service. For an in-person lesson, provide the address.
Confirm a lesson within 24 hours, and an urgent booking within one hour. Otherwise the booking is cancelled and the money returns to the student. 2 hours before an unconfirmed lesson the platform sends a reminder.
Can I cancel a lesson?
Yes, any time before it starts, but you must state a reason. The student gets a full refund, and the administration sees the case.
Frequent cancellations lower trust and can lead to a warning or your profile being hidden. If you cannot teach a lesson, it is better to agree on a reschedule with the student in advance.
What happens after the lesson and when do I get paid?
After the lesson ends, you and the student both receive the question "Did the lesson take place?". Answer honestly. If the student confirms, or both of you stay silent for 48 hours, the lesson counts.
The money is credited to your balance and becomes available for withdrawal 24 hours after the lesson. While a dispute over the lesson is open, that amount is frozen.
What is the platform commission?
The platform keeps 10% of the lesson price. The student pays exactly the price you set, with no markup. The platform covers the payment processing costs.
Example: a 5,000 KZT lesson brings you 4,500 KZT on your balance.
How do I withdraw money to a card?
Open "Finance" in your dashboard and click "Withdraw". Choose the method: Kaspi Gold, a bank card or a sole proprietor account. Provide the details and your IIN — it is required.
- The minimum withdrawal is 5,000 KZT.
- A manager processes the request, usually within 24 hours on business days. Progress is visible in the support chat.
- No more than 5 requests per day. Until a request is processed, you can cancel it.
The platform charges no withdrawal fee. A bank transfer costs 1.9%, minimum 300 KZT, and that amount is kept by the bank.
Does the platform withhold taxes?
No. Your balance receives the amount minus only the platform commission. You pay income tax yourself, as a sole proprietor or in another convenient status. The dashboard keeps a history of all credits and withdrawals for your records.
A student opened a dispute. What do I do?
A dispute opens when the student answered "The lesson did not take place" and you answered "It did". An administrator reviews it. Write to the support chat about what happened and attach evidence: screenshots of the conversation, a recording or a connection report.
Possible outcomes: a full refund to the student, payment to you, a partial refund, or no change. While the dispute is open, the lesson amount is frozen on the balance.
How do reviews work and what about an unfair review?
Only a student can leave a review, after a paid lesson, once per lesson. You can reply publicly to any review about you; other students see the reply.
If a review is offensive or off-topic, click "Report". The administration will check it. You also rate students after lessons; those ratings are visible to the administration.
How do I set up in-person lessons?
In your profile settings, set your city and the point on the map where you teach. Choose the options: at your place, travelling to the student, or on neutral ground. For travelling, set a radius in kilometres.
The student pays the travel surcharge at the platform-wide per-kilometre rate, both ways. The student sees your address and phone number only after the lesson is confirmed.
How do I run a promotion on my lessons?
Open "Promotions" in your dashboard and set a discount of up to 90% for up to 90 days. The discount is shown in your profile and on the shared promotions page. When the period ends, the price returns by itself.
For course and test authors
Creating a course, publication requirements, moderation, income.
How do I create a course?
In the author dashboard click "Create course". Fill in the card: title, description, cover, language, price and expected duration. Then add lessons: videos, texts, files, assignments.
Videos are uploaded straight into a lesson and stored on the platform video hosting. You can keep the course as a draft as long as you like — students do not see it.
What does a course need to be submitted for publication?
Before you submit for review, the dashboard shows a list of what is missing. You need:
- a cover, ideally at least 800×450 pixels;
- a description of at least 30 characters;
- the teaching language, a price (0 for a free course) and a duration;
- at least one lesson;
- for a school stream course — an open stream.
How does course moderation work?
After submission the course gets the "Under review" status. The administration checks the content, cover and description, usually within 24 hours. The result arrives as a notification, by email and in Telegram.
If rejected, you get the reason and can fix and resubmit. Substantial edits to an already approved course also go through review.
Can I make a course free?
Yes, set the price to 0. Students will enrol with the "Enrol" button without paying. A free introductory course is a good way to bring students to your paid courses and lessons.
How much do I earn from a course sale and when?
90% of the course price. The platform keeps 10% and covers the payment processing costs. The amount is credited to your balance immediately after the purchase.
Withdrawal is the same as for tutors: from 5,000 KZT, to Kaspi Gold, a card or a sole proprietor account, usually within 24 hours on business days.
A student requested a refund for my course. How does that work?
A refund is only possible if no more than 14 days have passed since the purchase and less than 20% of the course is completed. An administrator reviews the request, and you receive a notification.
If the refund is approved, the amount is deducted from your balance. While the request is open, that amount is frozen.
How long does a student keep access to my course?
Forever. A student who bought the course stays enrolled even if you change the price later. So keep the materials up to date: it strengthens reviews and repeat purchases.
How do I create a UNT test and set its price?
On the "Tests" tab of the author dashboard click "Create test". Add questions by subject, set the time and the rules. A test, like a course, goes through moderation.
A test can have up to 4 price bundles, for example 1, 3 or 10 attempts, and you can issue discount promo codes.
How do I run a discount on a course or a test?
In the "Promotions" section of the dashboard pick a course or a test, set the new price and the period. A discount can be up to 90% and last up to 90 days. The course appears on the shared promotions page where students look for good deals.
Can I be an author and a tutor at the same time?
Yes, and it is common practice. The author dashboard has three tabs: "Courses", "Tutor" and "Tests". Earnings from all directions arrive on one balance. In your tutor profile you can recommend your own courses to students.
For schools and curators
Opening a school, staff roles, streams and groups, curator duties, school finances.
What is an online school on the platform?
It is a dashboard for a team, not for a single teacher. A school has a storefront with course packages, staff with different roles, streams with dates, groups with curators, a timetable and an electronic gradebook.
It suits education centres, language schools and authors whose teaching runs in cohorts with support.
How do I open a school?
On the "Schools" page click "Apply". Provide the name, description, subjects, city, phone, WhatsApp and Instagram. The administration reviews the application.
If the application is rejected, you see the reason and can apply again. After approval the school dashboard opens.
What staff roles does a school have?
- Owner — created the school, receives the money, cannot be removed or demoted.
- School admin — almost all owner rights, except finances by default.
- Senior curator for studies — responsible for the learning process and assigns curators.
- Senior curator for student welfare — works with students and parents.
- Curator — leads their group.
- Sales manager — applications and package purchases.
Each role can be fine-tuned. Access to payments, role assignment and school profile editing is granted separately.
What is a stream?
A stream is a cohort of students that starts on a specific date and studies together. A stream has a start and end date, a seat limit (0 — unlimited), a list of courses and a week-by-week curriculum plan.
Groups are created inside a stream. A stream cannot be deleted while it is active or has students. When the seats run out, new students do not enter the stream until you raise the limit.
What is a group and who can be a curator?
A group is a part of a stream, for example 15–20 students. Each group has exactly one curator. Only an active school employee with the "Curator" position can be assigned as a curator.
A senior curator can select students as a list and assign them a curator in one action.
What does a curator do?
A curator is the mentor of a group. In the school dashboard they:
- see the students of their group, their progress and contacts;
- check homework, put grades in the gradebook and return work for revision;
- maintain the timetable and the curriculum plan of their stream;
- open hidden lessons to individual students when needed;
- accept new students into the group.
Students receive notifications about the curator grades and comments on the site and in Telegram.
How do I enrol many students at once?
First add the students to the "pre-stream": the list of those who paid or signed up but have not started yet. Then select the ones you need and click "Enrol into stream". Enrolment into large streams runs in the background, and you see the status right in the list.
How does a school sell its teaching?
The school creates packages: a set of courses with a price. Packages are shown on the school storefront. When a student buys a package, they automatically enter the active stream, and the school gets a task to assign a curator and a manager.
If there is no active stream, the student is marked for manual enrolment.
Where does school money go and what is the commission?
All sales of school courses and packages are credited to the balance of the school owner. The standard platform commission for schools is 10%; for individual schools the administration can set a custom rate.
Withdrawal works the same as for tutors and authors. The payment report is visible only to staff with the "View payments" permission.
Do school courses go through moderation?
Yes, under the general rules: the same card requirements and the same review by the administration. For trusted schools with a good history the administration can switch moderation off, and then courses are published immediately.
What are school stories?
A short post with a picture or a video that is shown as a circle on the site front page for 24 hours. Handy for announcing stream enrolment, a webinar or a discount.
